What can a hearing dog do?
The hearing do is a dog selected and trained to physically and psychologically support people with hearing disabilities. This is the type of assitance dog that Áskal provides.
The dogs are trained to alert the recipients to a series of sounds:
When a dog hears these sounds it alerts the recipient with a learnt action (touching the foot with their paw or putting their paws up onto the owner) and when they’ve got their attention, taking them to the source of the sound. In the case of danger sounds (a car horn when walking in the street) the dog jumps up with both paws to stop the recipient walking.
